Aerzen USA Sponsors Girls Exploring Tomorrow’s Technology (GETT) Event

09.04.2019

Nearly 1,000 girls from 160 schools in six counties attended the 19th annual Girls Exploring Tomorrow's Technology (GETT) event Saturday in Chester County. The free event at Phoenixville Area Middle School was for girls 5th grade through 10th. They could learn about STEM-related career opportunities and hear from more than 50 female senior executives and the region's top tech companies.

Aerzen USA attended the event for a second year and features opportunities in manufacturing and engineering to the local students and provided a Pioneer Sponsorship donation of $500.

This year a new addition to the booth was developed to help the girls understand “air moving equipment.” A board with several clear air hoses attached to a vacuum moved different materials across the board. The visual movement of the materials made it clear as to what Aerzen’s equipment does and the basics of the technology.

The Expo expanded into a third space this year which allowed for more companies, more tables, and more activities. In addition to the interior Expo spaces, the exploration continued outside where the girls had the opportunity to tour the DASD Mobile Innovation Lab, climb inside the Good Fellowship Ambulance and to practice their on-air weather forecasting skills with NBC’s Storm Force 10. Despite the high winds, the women pilots from Sikorsky navigated a perfect landing with a helicopter.

Here are some quick stats from GETT 2019:

Students: 957
Parents and Educators: 315
Volunteers: 73
STEM Ambassadors: 32
Expo STEM Activities: 121
Organizations involved: 67

This year’s free forum for girls in grades five through 10 included 85 activities in STEM fields, such as robotics, coding, video gaming, and forensic sciences, and a discussion involving more than 50 female senior executives from business, government, and education, including Vanguard, Cerner, Exelon, GlaxoSmithKline, Bentley Systems, Pfizer, and Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.

GETT, presented by the Chester County Economic Development Council through its Innovative Technology Action Group initiative, was first created as a response to the underrepresentation of young women in STEM careers.

GETT offers young women the opportunity to explore career opportunities in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) through hands-on activities led by successful women role models.
