In conjunction with one of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) guidelines, Buenos Aires’s headquarters spent a day in a Natural Reserve to preserve the life of its ecosystem. Aerzen Argentina’s team visited “Reserva Parque del Este” in the town of Baradero, approximately 120km north of Buenos Aires, to accomplish intense work to restore and recover the native flora. This activity was carried out in the first semester of the year in order to promote the Sustainable Development Goals within the team and community. The SDGs are a universal call to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure that by 2030 all people enjoy peace and prosperity. At AERZEN we proudly promote these objectives. The activity was directly related to objective No. 15: Life on Land. 30 years ago, urban waste was dumped in this natural reserve. The original vegetation has been threatened by the invasion of exotic species, for example, those of Chinese origin such as white mulberry, paper mulberry and privet, or those of American origin such as black locust. Grasslands suffer from the invasion of tribulus terrestris and several species of clover. All these exotic species have occupied the space faster than the native ones, which causes a great environmental impact on both flora and fauna. Throughout the day, a restoration sector of the canyon that was invaded by foreign species was reforested with Schinus molle, Celtis tala and Carob trees, three types of native trees, by the AERZEN team and their families. Children participated in the preparation of seedlings, so in the future they will be part of the natural and native ecosystem of this reserve. Likewise, this restoration work protects the canyon so it won't collapse. There was a lot of work to do, the day was long and exhausting but the team was outstanding in the task and very enthusiastic. They could breathe a lot of joy, energy and fun. The little ones enjoyed the activities and teamwork was reflected in wonderful results. And of course, to end the tree planting day, an Argentinian barbecue couldn’t miss. Thank you to the entire team for collaborating and for showing that, although the action is small, if we are united the impact can be big. AERZEN Argentina is happy to leave a mark on the planet and day by day reduce our footprint.
